Alkyd resins
BRADCOM offers a selected range of polyols and intermediates for the synthesis of alkyd resins used in enamels, paints and industrial coatings. From pentaerythritol and trimethylolpropane to building blocks used to tailor binder structure, our portfolio addresses the needs of manufacturers developing resins with different requirements in terms of hardness, flexibility, drying performance and coating durability.
Raw materials for resin synthesis
Pentaerythritol
Key polyol for the production of alkyd resins used in enamels and paints. Its functionality enables the development of branched structures, contributing to film hardness and resistance according to the overall resin composition.
Trimethylolpropane – TMP
Trifunctional polyol used in the synthesis of alkyd resins to tailor binder branching and functionality. It is used in the development of coating resins requiring a specific balance between hardness and flexibility.
Neopentyl glycol – NPG
Diol used in modified alkyd resins where hydrolytic stability and resistance to outdoor exposure are important performance requirements. Its molecular structure helps tailor binder performance in combination with the other components of the resin formulation.
Propylene glycol – PG
Diol used in the synthesis of specific alkyd resins, in combination with higher-functionality polyols. It enables the polyester structure and degree of branching to be tailored according to process requirements and the desired properties of the final product.

Synthesis intermediates and modifiers
Benzoic acid
Monofunctional acid used as a modifier and chain terminator in the synthesis of alkyd resins. It enables molecular weight development and binder viscosity to be controlled according to the resin composition and the desired properties.
Maleic anhydride – MA
Intermediate used in the production of modified alkyd resins. It introduces unsaturation into the polyester backbone and is used in specific formulations to tailor resin reactivity and structure.
Fumaric acid
Unsaturated acid component used in the synthesis of specific alkyd resins and modified binders. It is employed in systems where its functionality contributes to achieving the required resin structure and reactivity.
Tetrahydrophthalic anhydride – THPA
Cycloaliphatic anhydride used in the synthesis of specific modified alkyd resins. It enables a cyclic component to be incorporated into the binder structure according to the performance requirements of the coating system.
Coating pigmentation and finishing
Titanium dioxide – TiO₂
White pigment used in the formulation of enamels and alkyd-based coatings. It contributes to opacity, whiteness and the overall colour performance of the finished coating. Grade selection depends on dispersion, gloss and coating exposure requirements.
